Summary

 

This course addresses the impact of the Internet and the growth of international computer crime.  Participants will learn investigative strategies and techniques to combat the exploitation of the computer by transnational criminal enterprises.  Participants will learn methods to establish a computer crime investigative capability.  This course is open only to English–speaking participants.

 

Course Objectives:

 

·         Participants will learn techniques to investigative computer crime.  Specific topics covered include terrorism, fraud, trafficking in dangerous drugs, extortion, pornography, prostitution, and theft of intellectual and cultural property.

 

·         Participants will become familiar with computer crime topics such as denial of service attacks, unauthorized network access, theft of proprietary information, data alteration, and viruses.

 

·         Participants will learn the significance of files that may be found during a forensic examination of a computer. 

 

·         Participants will consider various methods for establishing a computer crime investigative capability.
