1. Who may participate in
ILEA courses?
Participants in ILEA courses must be affiliated
with law enforcement activities, which include
attorney general officials, police officers, customs officers, drug
enforcement agents, and
airport officials.
2. What are policies and
procedures for students?
While attending ILEA, students must abide by
the rules and regulations of their own
agency/department as they apply to their conduct, and the policies
and procedures set
out by ILEA. Failure to do so may result in revocation of participation
and/or legal action
may be taken:
2.1Student Participation
2.1.1 The student agrees to remain in law enforcement
or a related position for a minimum
of three (3) years after ILEA attendance.
2.1.2 The student certifies that any training
material, information, handouts, video recordings,
documents, and/or manuals issued during the course will be used for
law enforcement will
be used for law enforcement purposes only. No copies or reproductions
of these materials
will be made without the prior approval of the issuing agency.
2.1.3 While attending ILEA, students are required
to attend all classes on time.
2.1.4 Students are required to notify the class
counsellor in a timely manner if there will be
a scheduling conflict.
2.1.5 Students are required to attend not less
than 90% of the scheduled classes in a given
course in order to successfully complete that course. If that agreement
is not kept, the
student will be notified in writing that their participation in ILEA
is no longer required.
An appropriate member of the ILEA Executive Staff will personally
address any unforeseen
circumstances requiring a student's absence.
2.2 Class Etiquette
2.2.1 Students will wear appropriate attire
while attending ILEA courses, i.e., ILEA-issued
polo shirts will be worn during class. Unless otherwise notified,
jeans are not to be worn
in class.
2.2.2 Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated
at ILEA.
2.2.3 Eating, Drinking, smoking, and/or chewing
tobacco is not allowed in the classroom
or office areas. Smoking is allowed outside of the building.
2.2.4 Students are to refrain from reading newspapers,
magazines, books or other
material not provided by an instructor, while a speaker is presenting
information.
2.2.5 Students will refrain from talking to
fellow students while a speaker is providing
instruction to the class.
2.2.6 Students will turn off pagers and mobile
phones in the classroom. All telephone
conversations will take place outside of the classroom, and only during
class breaks.
2.3 Class Counsellors
Every ILEA course has a class counsellor assigned
to take care of various student
needs. As the counsellors will reside with the students, they are
available to administer
to student requests at all times of the day or night during the period
of a course.
2.4 Health Concerns
While attending ILEA courses, the student's
health is of primary concern. A student is
advised to immediately notify the class counsellors if he becomes
ill, has an accident,
or is injured in any way, at any time of the day. ILEA will assist
the student in obtaining
necessary medical attention. ILEA will bear financial responsibility
for pre-approved,
routine and necessary medical bills. If a student's illness is from
a pre-existing condition,
ILEA will be responsible for the medical care necessary to stabilize
the condition, and
safely return the student to his country.
2.5 Crime
It is the responsibility of the ILEA participant
to immediately notify ILEA of any or
security personnel.
In the event a participant becomes the victim
of a crime, it is requested that the ILEA
class counsellor be notified immediately. ILEA will assist the individual
with completing
any required police reports.
If it becomes apparent a student was negatively
involved with police or security
personnel, the student will be immediately suspended from participation
in a course.
ILEA will complete a preliminary inquiry to determine the facts of
the incident before
adjudicating action.
2.6 Emergency Notification
In the event that a student is injured,
ILEA will, with his consent, notify the student's
home office. If the student experiences a family emergency that requires
a return
home, upon prior notification and prior approval ILEA would authorize
the student to
return home at his own cost. ILEA provides the student with only one
round-trip
air ticket per course.
2.7 Religious concerns
In respecting different religious practices,
ILEA provides a prayer room, appropriate
food, and transportation to a local house of worship, as needed.
2.8 Computer Use
At ILEA, two computers for student use
are located in rooms adjacent to the classroom,
and there are nine in the ILEA Internet/Reading Room located at the
Rama Gardens
Hotel. With regard to computer use, students are not to change passwords,
install software,
download programmes, nor access inappropriate websites on the Internet.
Students are
not authorised to use the computers in the ILEA staff offices.
3. What are Thailand Visa
requirements?
Since students are travelling to Bangkok on
official business, it is imperative that they
obtain a valid visa to enter Thailand from the Royal Thai Consulate
in their countries.
Visas on arrival will not be issued in Bangkok.
